Solving an issue with user profiles after Remote Desktop Services role removal

I recently received a task to remove the Remote Desktop Services role on Windows Server 2022 with the User Profile Disk configured. Initially, the task seemed simple delete the role and reboot the server.

After this operation, it turned out that a profile error appears when any user logs in.

I checked again to see if the role was deleted. The role was successfully deleted.

The problem turned out to be that after deleting the role and restarting the server, the values in the registry branch were not deleted

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\ClusterSettings

It needs to delete this registry branch.

Next, delete all user profiles in the registry branch

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList

The issue won’t appear again after the server restart.
